چکیده

Abstract Using EURING data and geolocation, we describe migration routes the nonbreeding range of Red-rumped Swallows breeding in Western Palearctic. One bird ringed southern Spain recovered Morocco indicates southwestern migration; geolocator from five birds central eastern Iberian Peninsula confirm to various sites sub-Saharan west Africa between Senegal/Mauritania Ghana. Two swallows showed non-breeding site itinerancy by using more than one per season. Despite wide ranges departure for autumn (August–October) spring (February–March), all arrived at within ± 1-week each other.

Brood parasitism of White-rumped Swallows by Shiny Cowbirds

Swallows and martins are infrequent hosts of the generalist brood parasite Shiny Cowbird (Molothrus bonariensis). We monitored 50 nesting attempts by White-rumped Swallows (Tachycineta leucorrhoa) over a two-year period in Argentina and detected low rates of brood parasitism (three nests, or 6%). Of the three nests parasitized, cowbirds (N = 1 per nest) successfully fledged from two. Eight of 1...

Homogenization dynamics and introduction routes of invasive freshwater fish in the Iberian Peninsula.

Nonnative invasive species are one of the main global threats to biodiversity. The understanding of the traits characterizing successful invaders and invasion-prone ecosystems is increasing, but our predictive ability is still limited. Quantitative information on biotic homogenization and particularly its temporal dynamics is even scarcer. We used freshwater fish distribution data in the Iberia...

New insights into the genetic composition and phylogenetic relationship of wolves and dogs in the Iberian Peninsula

This study investigates the gene pool of Portuguese autochthonous dog breeds and their wild counterpart, the Iberian wolf subspecies (Canis lupus signatus), using standard molecular markers. A combination of paternal and maternal molecular markers was used to investigate the genetic composition, genetic differentiation and genetic relationship of native Portuguese dogs and the Iberian wolf. A t...

Rotation of the iberian peninsula.

Jones and Ewing (1) have presented seismic profiler data from the Bay of Biscay which allows a 120 anticlockwise rotation of the Iberian peninsula between Eocene and Middle to Upper Miocene times. They refer several times to the fact that this va'ue is appreciably less than a rotation of 220, which they believe resulted from our paleomagnetic study of the Lisbon Volcanics (2). We must point out...
